Advent 2023: Tuesday, December 12

December 16, 2023

Christmas morning unfolded, and an unimaginable sight awaited me—an 8-year-old's dream come true, a brand new bike. Anticipation turned to frustration as winter's grip lingered, delaying the joy I had so eagerly awaited. The reality clashed with my envisioned experience.

In a parallel anticipation, the Jewish people longed for a King—a powerful, earthly leader to deliver them. Their expectation collided with the arrival of Jesus, a different kind of King. Some embraced the unexpected, adjusting their expectations to see the truth in the humble servant King. Others clung to their earthly ideals, unable to perceive the profound nature of the gift.

God's people had waited for a Savior, and for those who accepted Jesus, the gift exceeded all expectations. The King arrived not as a warrior to overthrow oppressors, but as the giver of freedom from sins. Acceptance and trust in him lead to a life of righteousness. This Christmas, let's reflect on unexpected gifts, recognizing that the profoundness of salvation may challenge our earthly expectations, yet it offers a transformative journey to a life of grace and freedom.
