Advent 2023: Saturday, December 16

December 16, 2023

Each year as Christmas approaches, I love the anticipation of friends and family gathering together in our home, with this comes the decorating. I love all the traditions of this season, but trying to stay focused on the true spirit of Christmas and the birth of Jesus is sometimes a challenge. Distractions are everywhere! I make it a point to place reminders of Jesus and the blessings of his birth around our home. Nativity scenes tucked in each room, Christmas books on coffee tables, angels, stars, and crosses glittering on the tree, Advent wreathes and candles, traditional Christmas music on the play-list. Doing this allows us to pause and remember to celebrate the birth of Jesus. One favorite item is a wall hanging with this prayer:

LORD, We thank You for the gift of JOY (Luke 2:8-9) that fills our hearts with praise.

We thank You for the gift of PEACE (Luke 2:13-14) that blesses all our days.

We thank You for the gift of HOPE (Luke 2:10) that helps us make it through.

We thank You for the gift of LOVE (John 3:16) that keeps us close to you.

May you find yourself surrounded by reminders of God’s gift of Jesus this Advent season.
