Advent 2023: Monday, December 25
December 27, 2023
Advent. I always think of the word “Advent” as an “adventure.”
The journey to Christmas—to the birth of Christ—to the eventual second coming. The meaning of the word, Advent is coming or arrival. What better adventure than that? How do we pack our bags for such an adventure? We must include reflection, prayer, and contemplation for the coming of Christ in our spiritual knapsacks.
To exercise, more consciously, the values of faith, kindness, care, generosity, grace, forgiveness, charity, humility. To carry to others the values of hope, peace, joy, and love and all that being imbued in those values represents. A reminder to our own selves that we must be humbled to be raised up. That’s a lot to carry, it takes up a lot of room in our spiritual knapsacks.
This is a time to look at what we carry with us—do we carry the strength of our own convictions around the season of Christmas? The imperatives around our faith, the deep meaning of this sacred time, and the “Advent-ure” of centering our lives around Emmanuel (Lord with us) through our lives?
We do not travel on our adventure alone, we are not insignificant, or unknown or trivial to our God. Christ came to the world to show us the way. To guide our path. To model God’s will for us. To show us how to “pack for the adventure”!
….Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
