Advent 2023: Friday, December 22

December 22, 2023

Luke 2:13-14 tells us that when the angel came to the shepherds, he told them about the birth of the Messiah. When the angel was joined by the heavenly hosts, they told the shepherds: "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."  While this verse is timely for the encounter with the shepherds, it applies to more than just the birth of Christ. This gift of peace is further established in Philippians 4:7 where we are told that the peace of God that transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. This year, as you celebrate the birth of our Savior, reflect on the peace we have in Christ: not a worldly peace, but an indwelling peace that results from the assurance we have through our faith in Christ Jesus. The same peace that allows us to be joyful in all circumstances as we strive to receive his favor by our walk, our attitude, and our care for others. Peace and Joy to each of you this Christmas!
