Advent 2023: Friday, December 15

December 16, 2023

Good people all, this Christmas time, Consider well and bear in mind

What our good God for us has done, In sending his beloved son …

...Within a manger he was laid. And by his side the virgin maid

Attending on the Lord of Life. Who came on earth to end all strife.

I absolutely love the ancient chants and carols from long ago. A few of the verses from the Wexford Carol (an Irish Christmas Carol originating from County Wexford, 400ish years ago), resonate deeply with me. I love the haunting cadence of this song, and that it assumes us to be good people, reminding us to bear in mind what our good God has done for us.

It’s a bit difficult as we see the chaos in the world, the violence, discord, rudeness, and hatred that prevail, and not question where God is in all this. Christ’s birth is our reminder that his sacrifice was made in our behalf to cleanse the world, and truly to end all strife. What a day that will be! Consider well and bear in mind…

The hope of Christ to sustain us in our strife and our life!
