Advent 2023: Wednesday, December 20

December 20, 2023

Advent: a time to focus on peace, love, joy, and hope (in no particular order). A time to remember the 1st coming of Jesus and to prepare to meet him the 2nd time, whether in our earthly bodies or our spiritual ones. A time to reprioritize, refocus, and celebrate what matters most in our short amount of time here on Earth.

When Jesus was walking on the Earth, he encouraged his disciples to focus on other people and on simply following him in his very unique way of life. When we forget to reprioritize, refocus, and celebrate what matters most, we end up getting off target, focusing on our goals and dreams rather than others. Prioritizing our needs over others. Celebrating ourselves and our achievements like a drummer who just learned how to drum and is walking around loudly showing off his “skills.”

When we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, we become more peaceful, loving, joyful, and hopeful in our interactions with others. As we prepare to remember Jesus’ 1st arrival, let us also prepare to meet him face to face with his 2nd “arrival” and to be so full of his Spirit that he may say “well done, my good and faithful servant.”
