Don’t miss Hazel Miller this Sunday (July 5, 2020)

Hello everyone,

Well, we are finally getting used to meeting together in the Town of Dillon Park. With the Safer-at-Home health order in place we are still limited to 175.

However, that will not slow us down! We have a special treat this Sunday… Hazel Miller will be joining us and leading us in worship for our July Fourth Weekend Sunday in the Park! In order to make this happen, here are the procedures (read them carefully):

  1. We will have TWO services this Sunday, July 5. One at 9:00 and one at 11:00. There will be no overflow options.
  2. You MUST Sign Up for whichever service you plan on attending. We are planning on full services, so please sign up ASAP at dillonchurch.org/rsvp. We have no allowances to go beyond the 175.
  3.  If you have friends or family in town, make sure to sign them up as well.
  4. We will be posting this on our website and Facebook page and anticipate visitors wanting to join us.
  5. Like last Sunday, masks are required! Thank you for complying.
  6. If you would like to volunteer, please call the office. We have need of help in many areas.
  7. As always, if you are sick, compromised, have symptoms, self-quarantining, or feel uncomfortable attending in person, please feel free to stay home and watch the live-stream at dillonchurch.org/live.
  8. Please bring your chair, hat and coffee for a very special worship time with Hazel and her band.  We ask that you sit within the boundaries set up by our crew, for a more enjoyable music experience for both you and our musicians!

We are aware of the technical difficulties from last Sunday and are working diligently to overcome them. Thank you for your patience and grace as we navigate this new reality.

We are working diligently with County officials to both keep everyone safe and to present a great witness to the community. Thank you for helping us!

We can’t wait to see you Sunday for this very special worship celebration.

As always… I enjoy journeying with you during this crazy time!
Jim

Re-opening Plan for 6/21/2020

Hey everyone!

Well, the time to begin reopening DCC is now here. We will reopen this Sunday (Father’s Day) at 9:30 in the Town Park next to DCC. It is also a special day as we will be honoring our graduating seniors!!!

Before I give you all of the details, it is good to remember that rarely does a church get to publicly demonstrate to our local leadership and our neighbors our commitment to each other’s safety and our strong desire to be good citizens. Our church has a very long and collaborative track record (over 100 years!) working with our local leaders and we will, once again, support them during this challenging time.

This is especially so as we are reopening in the Town of Dillon Park. The amphitheater is not open so we have been in close contact with the Town of Dillon and County officials and have received permission to open in the park.

Here are the requirements:

Self-Monitoring: If you are sick or in some way feel vulnerable, have been in contact with someone with Coronavirus, or are experiencing symptoms, please feel free to stay home and enjoy the live-streaming of the outdoor service… yes we will continue to live-stream.

Limit on Congregational Size: The CDPHE has limited all public gatherings in the state to 175 for right now. We believe this is doable as we do not have as many tourists as in previous years. We are asking everyone planning to attend to sign-up at the On-line Sign Up. Please take the time to sign up as this will help us tremendously as we are required to monitor the numbers.

Protection and Safety: As with all public gatherings, wearing masks as well as 6 ft physical distancing are required between families. Please work hard to help us with this as we will likely have people observing us.

Seating: As with the amphitheater, please bring your own lawn chair, blanket, sunscreen, water bottle, hats and whatever else you need to enjoy the outdoors in a high altitude environment. Also, we have set up the communion tables to mark the outer edges of the seating area. Please find a spot within the area defined by the communion tables.

Overflow: If more than 175 people sign up or show up, we are prepared to use the DCC Sanctuary for the overflow as we have the technology to live-stream in the Sanctuary.

Parking: You can park in the DCC parking lot (the north side of the park), the public parking lot next to the tennis courts (the east side), the public parking lot on the south side of the park, or the public parking lot between the police station and fire department (the west side).

Bathrooms: Facilities are available both in the park and in the church. It is important to remember that only ONE person (or family) is allowed at a time.

Children: There is no children’s programming or nursery during this phase. All parents are asked to keep their children with them during the service. Julie has prepared children’s packets to give them something to focus on during this time. The packets will be available on the west side of the park (the fire department side). And yes… we’d LOVE to have your children present during our services.

Song Sheets and Bibles: We will not be providing song sheets or Bibles. You can either open the song sheets on your smartphone during the service, or download them at home and print them off before coming. You can access them at dillonchurch.org/lyrics.

Communion and Offering: We will have four communion tables set up at the park (please set up your chairs inside the communion tables). After service you can go to one of the tables, receive a blessing, and partake in communion as you head to your car. There will also be offering baskets and sanitizing bottles at each communion table. There will be an elder at each table. They will not serve you but will bless you. We are complying with the state health order for touchless communion. It will be clear when you get there.

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, we will make a decision to continue or cancel by 8:00 am and will post it on our website. If weather does not permit us to conduct services outdoors, you can stay home and enjoy live-streaming from the comfort of your living room (as we have been doing all during the pandemic). You will not be permitted to come into the sanctuary.

Whew! That’s a lot of rules. Please be in prayer for our church, our members who are compromised or sick, and our neighbors who will be observing us during this time. And… thank you for being flexible during this challenging time.

In the meantime… I am so excited to worship with you again! Be safe, wash your hands, and bring your masks 🙂

Warmly in Christ,
Jim

Update – Sunday June 14

We are now in our summer series… A Different Kind of Faith. Picture God reaching out to us through the gospel and opening his hand and inviting us into a deeper walk with him and with our community. One of the foundational things that God has given us is dignity. What does this mean? This is the topic this morning… watch us live at 10:00 at www.dillonchurch.org. I am excited to walk with you through these many, many gifts brought to us by the Lord.

Yes, we are definitely getting closer to opening. We remain in conversation with our county leaders and now see some pathways through to enjoy being together again. Our primary concern will be to keep everyone safe, while simultaneously enjoying worship together. But don’t worry… we will continue to live-stream Sunday from now on!

Our plan is to reopen Father’s Day, June 21… yes that’s next Sunday! We will NOT be able to use the amphitheater. Since public events like concerts are not yet allowed, the amphitheater is not open. The work to open the amphitheater for any group is tremendous (de-winterize all bathrooms, install all sound equipment, hire additional summer staff to make everything happen, etc.). Dillon has been able to do none of these things. We heartily support the Town of Dillon in this decision while they manage this challenging time.

So, where will we meet? The Town of Dillon is very helpful in working with us as we look at all outdoor options. Next Thursday I’ll send out an email with all of the details. For now… get your camping chairs all dusted off, your sunscreen ready, water bottles clean, and be sure to locate your floppy hats! You’ll need them all. Our staff is working diligently to get everything in place for next week.

This will mean that we need extra help… just like we do in the amphitheater. We will be sending out “help” emails. Please contact the office if you are available to help. The current health orders are a little challenging, but no problem. Our commitment remains to work with our leaders and comply with all orders, create a safe experience, wear our masks, and have a lot of fun! Some of the areas we need help are in setup, managing contact-free communion, takedown, cleanup, and many other areas. HELP!!!

As always, if you are sick or feel vulnerable during this time, please feel free to stay home and enjoy the live stream… it’ll be interesting to live stream from a park! 😊.

Also remember to come join us TODAY for communion… we’ll be serving drive-through communion today from 11:30-1:30. Drive around to the back of the church and I’ll meet you at the rear entrance. No need to get out of your car!

This is the 14th week of our devotions, and since we are opening back up next week, it will be our last! Thank you elders and staff for all the devotions you have supplied throughout this crazy time. We can’t wait to be together with you again.

Hang in there and remember to contact us if you need help.

In this together with you,
Jim Howard, pastor

Update – Sunday June 7

Today we start a new series which will carry us through the summer… A Different Kind of Faith. Christianity has brought so many things to the world that reflect and reveal God’s character. Picture God reaching out to us through the gospel and opening his hand and inviting us into a deeper walk with him and with our community. At one level, this means that our faith is counter-cultural and, therefore, attractive while being challenging. I am excited to walk with you through these many, many gifts brought to us by the Lord.

As we move closer to opening up DCC, and yes we are getting closer, we remain in conversation with our county leaders and now see some pathways through to enjoy being together again. Our primary concern will be to keep everyone safe, while simultaneously enjoying worship together. But don’t worry… we will continue to live-stream Sunday from now on!

Many of you are asking about Worship on the Water (in the amphitheater) this summer. We are hoping to have some form of worship at the amphitheater, but will have to see how the county health orders change. We’ll keep you posted via email.

One more thing, Bruce Butler, one of our elders, has decided to run unaffiliated for County Commissioner, District 3. In order to do this he has to collect signatures to get his name on the ballot. If you desire to help him get his name on the ballot, then come sign the petition in our office. If you are unable to come, we can certainly bring it to you. This is not a vote for him… it is simply part of the process for him to get his name on the ballot. You can vote for whomever you chose once the candidates are identified and the ballot established.

Remember to join us for church this morning at 10:00 a.m. as we live-stream our services on our DCC YouTube channel. You can easily access it by going to dillonchurch.org/live. Also remember to come join us for communion… we’ll be serving drive-through communion today from 11:30-1:30. Drive around back and I’ll meet you at the rear entrance. No need to get out of your car!

Hang in there and remember to contact us if you need help.

In this together with you,

Update – Sunday May 31

When the Israelites were leaving Egypt, they were faced with a flowing river in front and a dry, hot desert with many Egyptian soldiers behind. It was a situation they had never faced before and were quite terrified until God stepped in to deliver them. Similarly, today we are facing a situation we have never faced before. But, we are NOT terrified, but confident in God’s love and protection. Obviously, we are going “where no one has gone before,” but it is no surprise to God. As Moses led the Israelites to stand and see the incredible power of God, so should we stand and watch his incredible power. Soon, this will be a memory we will speak about for the rest of our lives.

As we move closer to opening up DCC, we are engaged in a variety of possibilities, while keeping up with the changing health order requirements. Our primary concern will be to keep everyone safe, while simultaneously enjoying worship together. Having said that, our primary concern right now continues to be helping you through these challenging times. Let us know if we can help you better!

You will be receiving a letter from our elders this week. Read it carefully and stop and pray for these wonderful shepherds! They are overseeing our staff very well and we are deeply grateful for their love.

Many of you are asking about Worship on the Water (in the amphitheater) this summer. We are hoping to have some form of worship at the amphitheater, but will have to see how the county health orders change. We’ll keep you posted via email.

Remember to join us for church this morning at 10:00 a.m. as we live-stream our services on our DCC YouTube channel. You can easily access it by going to dillonchurch.org/live. And don’t forget to access Julie’s video for your children.

Come join us for communion… we’ll be serving drive-through communion today from 11:30-1:30. Drive around back and we’ll meet you at the rear entrance. No need to get out of your car!

Update – Sunday, May 17

Now that the county is beginning to open up, we are changing our devotions. Will be sending out a devotion every Wednesday to give you a middle-of-the-week chance to reflect and pray.

I had surgical procedures this week on my feet, so we have a special treat today… and I mean special.

And don’t forget to access Julie’s video for your children. If you didn’t see her Mother’s Day video last week… go back and look. It is fantastic!

Come join us for communion… we’ll be serving drive-through communion today from 11:30-1:30. Drive around back and we’ll meet you at the rear entrance. No need to get out of your car!

Hang in there and remember to contact us if you need help. For those of you who reached out to me this week, I’m sorry I have not yet gotten back to you. Sore feet and busy! 😊
