I have been pondering a verse I heard a few weeks ago… James 1:19: “My brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
I am thinking this sometimes, just like in the Old Testament, when God’s people had to wait on God to speak. The silence was not so much God waiting to speak, but God waiting for his children to listen.
In today’s culture of right now—me first, Instagram, Facebook, twitter… (pick your distraction)—we can easily tune out and not hear when the one true God speaks. As we approach this wonderful Christmas season, my prayer is that we all, as believers; “are quick to listen” as you never know who might be talking.
